“Together, We Bloom” is all about unity, growth and quiet strength in connection. This piece shows two daisies intertwined – each one unique, yet leaning into each other for strength. The colors in the petals represent the vibrancy that happens when we support each other.

Received my “Next Time Maybe” magazine today! Which included my titanium tiger that didn’t make it into any shows last year but he did make it into this publication about rejection. I’m grateful that I was able to show case my thoughts about creating and how hard I worked on piecing this guy together with many tiny rivets!! 🐯💞

Spent spring break in my mom’s new ceramic studio! 😍

Spent spring break in my mom’s new ceramic studio! 😍

This brooch was inspired by my two youngest cats! Millie we picked up at my Aunt’s home on Christmas Day 2023. Then summer 2024, I fount REM while hiking in the woods. They have been inseparable ever since REM was brought home. Their tails are always intertwined together while they enjoy each other’s company.

Details: Sterling silver, crushed stone inlay, and stainless steel pin back.

My student’s work from my Digital Media II course at D&E College. Our 1st project of the semester was selecting two flavors at random to use to create a drink that students then designed their own soda can label for!

We used adobe illustrator and pacdora mock up for the 3D appearance.

Shout out to the helpful employees at Art Link that notified me about my piece and kept me up to date on their plans.

In the Wild
Open nationally, In the Wild invited artists to submit artworks inspired by the natural world. Artlink received 354 entries, from which it was incredibly difficult to narrow down. I ended up selecting just over 30 artworks in total, which when combined offer a captivating and varied experience of nature.

From direct depictions of animals and landscape, to more abstract works created directly from natural elements such as —this exhibition feels like a celebration of our surroundings and of the small moments in life. You’ll experience captured moments such as a young bird taking some of its first steps into the world, the traced patterns of an ant colony, the texture and coloration paper can take on after months of erosion underground, or a small glimpse of outdoors seen from the confines of a hospital bed. My hope is that viewers will take time with each piece, just as I have, and appreciate the care and respect that each artist clearly has for their subject matter.

Last Semester, I had the privilege of teaching an Intro to Drawing course at D&E. I decided that our last assignment would be a self portrait. So of course I had to do my own portrait to show students how to capture their own facial features. Well…I officially finished mine today! I also included a few of our art majors self portraits from my class too! ✨

Instructor Announcement - Korey Burns!

Korey Burns is currently a full-time Creative Arts Professor at Davis and Elkins Collage. At D&E she is the instructor for the digital media courses and advises students who are enrolled in the Digital Design Minor at the collage.

Korey graduated with a masters in fine arts, concentrating in jewelry and metalsmithing techniques at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. She received her bachelors of fine arts from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA where she contrasted in sculptural designs. Born and raised in Grayson, Louisiana she has always felt a strong connection to the community and culture of Louisiana. Which lead to further interests in human interaction and traditions in other countries. In 2016, Korey participated in a study abroad program that took place in Salvador, Brazil. Then another in 2017 where she traveled to Florence, Italy. She was able to discover different connections that related back to the history of Louisiana. After graduation, Korey was selected by the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin Statute University as 2018’s recipient of the Gary Parker Art Scholarship which allowed her to move to NYC and accept a position as a assistant jewelry designer for Michael Michaud. After learning further skills about jewelry production, marketing, and craftsmanship she decided it was time to follow her passion of teaching.

Which lead to further interests in human interaction and traditions in other countries. In 2016, Korey participated in a study abroad program that took place in Salvador, Brazil. Then another in 2017 where she traveled to Florence, Italy. She was able to discover different connections that related back to the history of Louisiana. After graduation, Korey was selected by the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin Statute University as 2018’s recipient of the Gary Parker Art Scholarship which allowed her to move to NYC and accept a position as a assistant jewelry designer for Michael Michaud. After learning further skills about jewelry production, marketing, and craftsmanship she decided it was time to follow her passion of teaching.

My next project deals with the placement of my hands during the beginning stages of a panic attack. The placement of my hand on my head helps me feel grounded. I also apply pressure to particular areas to feel my pulse to remind myself that I’m not dying.

Typically stress is the trigger for these attacks but as of lately it’s been something completely new. I find myself feeling overwhelmed with anxiety after enjoying time with family or friends. Thoughts that cross my mind are what will I do when I loose them. This then leads to me having a panic attack. It’s been 53 days since my last panic attack which occurred after having dinner on easter with my grandma. I always admire her paintings and growing up she would have fun craft projects for us to do during our summer stays. She also showed me how to sew and helped me use a sewing machine for the first time to make an apron for 4-H club.

Finally finished my tiger pendant during my first weekend at the Touchstone Art Residency! Last night things got crazy with tornado warnings, hail, and lighting. Which lead to a super long name for my piece “Tornado Lightning Cotton Candy Tiger 🐯” ⚡️😮‍💨

It took a few months but at least he’s done ✔️
